Karla Kocijan: The Product Designer of Tomorrow

Meet Croatia’s talented young product designer Karla Kocijan. Her projects continue to win prestigious awards world-wide. She shared with us her portfolio full of interesting projects and we are bringing you 3 of them.

Upoznajte mladu talentiranu produkt dizajnericu Karlu Kocijan. Njeni radovi kontinuirano osvajaju najprestižnije svjetske nagrade. Podijelila je s nama svoj portfolio pun zanimljivih projekata, a mi vam donosimo njih 3.

Zoe lamp is minimalistic and simple. The lamp is made of a round metal frame with inserted LED light stripes and diagonally cut mirrors. The round frame is connected and fixed to the rod with electric wires. ZOE comes in two versions – as a pendant and as a floor lamp and in two heights. There are several different colors – white,
black, silver, gold and rose gold.

Zoe lampa odlikuje minimalizmom i jednostavnošću. Sastoji se od kružnog okvira unutar kojeg se nalaze LED trake i dijagonalno rezanog ogledala. Okvir je pričvršćen za držač pomoću električnih žica. Svjetiljka dolazi u više varijanti, kao podna i kao viseća lampa, te u dvije različite visine. Zamišljena je i u više boja, bijeloj, crnoj, srebrnoj, zlatnoj i bakrenoj.

The Iceland lamps are inspired by the ice crystals. When hanging from the ceiling, lamps look like the ice crystals illuminated by the Sun. The lamp is constructed out of four transparent PMMA plates, two of which are coated with dichroic foil. LED light bulb in the lamp minimizes the electric power usage making it long lasting and ecological. The use of material is minimal which makes the lamp incredibly light. As a
result the lamp can be hung on literally any kind of a ceiling.

Iceland lampe inspirirane su ledenim kristalima. Viseći sa stropa djeluju kao kristali obasjani suncem. Lampe su napravljene od četiri transparentne PMMA ploče od kojih su dvije prekrivene dikroičnom folijom. LED žarulje optimiziraju potrošnju električne energije zbog čega su lampe dugotrajne i ekološki prihvatljive. Upotreba materijala je svedena na minimum kako bi konačni produkt bio izuzetno lagan. Kao takav može se objesiti s praktički bilo koje vrste stropa.

Due to their form, lamps
can be installed in the myriad of different combinations, in apartments as well as in public places, hotels etc. Besides the hanging version of the lamp, there is also a table version. By changing the bulb power, the lamp changes from a mood light to ambient light to accent light. It can be mounted above the dining table, on the bedside or as a light installation.

Zbog svoje elementarne forme, lampe se mogu ugrađivati u različite ambijente od javnih do privatnih prostora.
Osim visilice postoji i stolna verzija.
Promjenom jačine osvjetljenja lampa se pretvara iz ambijentalne rasvjete u skulpturalnu naglašavajući sebe i prostor oko sebe. Prikladna je za upotrebu iznad blagovaonskog stola, na noćnom ormariću ili kao samostalna svjetlosna instalacija.

There is furniture designed for babies, youngsters, grownups, and… the line ends here. There is no furniture adequate for elderly people and their needs.

People nowadays eat healthier and live longer than before. They are also
taller than in the middle ages. The 60+ population is more numerous than ever before. After retiring, they start enjoying their lives. They are still healthy and in full strength. They have hobbies, spend their time outdoors or travel, but when they come home – there is a problem. Their furniture does not meet their needs any more. They find it difficult to bend down, to crouch, or to get up from the bed in the morning. After extensive research on the heights of the furniture and needs of elderly people, the conclusion was derived that their main problem is the height of the furniture like beds and armchairs and their softness.

Postoji namještaj za bebe, djecu, odrasle i…tu staje. U današnjem svijetu ne postoji adekvatan namještaj za prilagođen osobama treće životne i njihovim potrebama.

Danas ljudi jedu zdravije i žive dulje. Također prosječna visina čovjeka više nije ista kao u srednjem vijeku. Populacija 60+ je sve brojnija. Nakon odlaska u penziju, oni nastavljaju uživati u životu. Još uvijek su zdravi i puni energije. Imaju hobije, provode vrijeme na otvorenom, putuju…no postoji problem kada se vrate kući. Njihov namještaj ne odgovara njihovim potrebama. Teško im je sagnuti se, izaći iz kreveta, čučnuti… Nakon opsežnog istraživanja o standardima namještaja i potrebama starijih osoba došlo se do zaključka da su glavni krivci visina i mekoća.

The construction of the fauteuil is made of wood. It has a higher seat than usual sofas and armchairs. The back is adjustable. The armchair has cushions on the seat and on the back which are made like mattresses. That means that they are comfortable but not too soft.

Konstrukcija naslonjača napravljena je od drva. U njemu se sjedi više nego u standardnoj fotelji. Leđa su prilagodljiva. Naslonjač ima jastučasto sjedište i leđa napravljena kao madrac što znači da su meka, ali pružaju kvalitetnu potporu.
